14 Zero Waste Fall Activities

Everyone’s favorite season, fall, is here! To help you (sustainably) make the most of this season, we’ve put together a list of our favorite zero waste fall activities.

Enjoy!

Take a fall hike

Enjoy the crisp fall air and fall colors with a hike through the woods. Not only is this a completely zero waste activity but being out in nature also really helps us to connect and appreciate our beautiful planet that we’re working to protect!

Forage for fall décor

Rather than head to the store to buy your fall décor, why not head to the woods and collect your own! You can gather pinecones, leaves, crab apples, or anything else that catches your eye and use them to decorate your home for fall.

Go thrifting

In need of some cozy sweaters for fall? Rather than buying new, head to your local thrift shops to look for pre-owned fall attire. You’ll not only cut down on waste, but you’re likely to find some great unique pieces at a fraction of their original price.

Donate clothes

Season changes are also a great time to go through your own closet and dig out the items you no longer wear. You can donate these to a local thrift store or charity and help someone else find their new favorite fall pieces.

Read a good book

A mug of apple cider, a warm blanket, and a good book- does it get any better than that? Make sure you check out our fall reading list to find your next fall read.

Roast pumpkin seeds

Carving pumpkins is an essential fall activity, but rather than letting all of those pumpkin seeds go to waste, you can roast them for a delicious and healthy snack.

Go apple picking

Another classic fall activity, that just so happens to be sustainable as well, is apple picking! Head out to a nearby orchard and collect your own fruit- just make sure not to collect more than you actually need or will use!

Make apple pie

Now that you have your apples, you need to find something to use them for, and what’s better than a homemade apple pie? Apple pie, apple sauce, apple jam, and apple cider are just a few of the delicious treats you can make with your apple bounty.

Take up knitting

There’s nothing cozier than a handknit scarf or sweater and taking up knitting is a great way to keep yourself and your loved ones warm all though the fall and winter months.

Go camping

We can’t think of a better way to enjoy the beautiful fall weather than with a fall camping trip!

Have a movie marathon

Kick off Halloween season with a spooky movie marathon! Enjoy with some homemade popcorn and hot apple cider- it doesn’t get much more fall than that!

Make your own candles

Many of the candles you buy at the store are filled with harmful chemicals but having candles burning during the fall is a must! The solution? Make your own. You can make your own non-toxic candles out of natural ingredients like beeswax, soy wax, and essential oils.

Head to the farmer’s market

Eating local is one of the best ways to not only cut down on waste but also support your local community, and there is a bounty of fresh produce during the fall! Grab your cloth grocery bag and head out to pick up some of the delicious local produce grown right in your own backyard.

Make your own PSL

Rather than heading out to get the must-have fall drink, you can skip the disposable cups and sugary syrups and make your own right at home.
